Sam’s Club and Costco are usually among the cheapest, so if you have a membership, make sure to fill up when you are there.
If you shop at Kroger, you’ll earn discounts at participating Kroger, Turkey Hill or at participating Shell gas stations, so you’ll want to scan your Kroger card or use your alternate I.D. for Kroger Fuel rewards.
Giant Eagle Fuelperks program rewards points when you shop at Giant Eagle brand stores and gas stations with your Advantage Card.
If you fill up at UDF, or United Dairy Farmers, make sure to sign up for the U-Drive rewards – it’s free, and you’ll earn discounts at the pump and in-store, and get 3 cents off every gallon, everyday. They also often have one of the best deals on gallons of milk
Pilot Flying J Preferred Customer Rewards membership gets you 3 cents off every gallon of fuel purchased, and earns points for in-store purchases. You’ll also get a 10% discount coupon to participating Denny’s restaurants and enjoy free rewards during your birthday month.
Shell Fuel Rewards has two levels. Silver Status saves 3 cents per gallon on fuel purchases. Gold Status saves you 5 cents per gallon. You’ll get Gold Status for the first 6 months, and can maintain it with six purchases of 5 gallons every 3 months.

Tips for increasing fuel economy
When gas is as expensive as it is, it’s important to get the most from each gallon!
-Don’t idle to warm your car – even if the cold. There’s no need to start your car early before you drive. The engine (and heater!) will warm more quickly if it’s being driven within 30 seconds of starting.
-Avoid sudden starts and stops. If it’s throwing your passengers head forward and back, you’re accelerating and braking way too hard! This can decrease your fuel economy by 10-40%!! Try to gradually increase and decrease speed as gradually as is safe.
-If your car has a manual transmission, upshift as soon as practical. Use the brakes rather than downshifting to slow the car.
-Pay attention to the traffic ahead of you, and follow at a distance when possible to prevent unnecessary braking.
-Fuel economy peaks at 50mph, and decreases at higher speeds.
-Use cruise control to keep even speed (but only when it’s not raining or wet/slippery, which can be dangerous!)
-Download a hands-free traffic app like Waze or Google Maps to plan the most efficient route. This can help you avoid traffic delays and excessive idling.
-Avoid rush hour traffic when possible
